In a way, we have Carrie Underwood’s mother to thank for her epic new ballad, “There’s a Place for Us,” from the new The Chronicles of Narnia movie. Underwood told the Wall Street Journal that she’s been a fan of the Narnia books since she was younger because her mom (a teacher) used to read them in her classes. Carrie wrote the tune with David Hodges and Hillary Lindsey after they all watched the movie together. “The whole premise of the movie is about this other world and growing up I’ve definitely felt the way the characters in the movie felt … like they should be off somewhere else having adventures and having this amazing life and instead they feel like they can never get there,” she said. She added that she can relate to growing up in a small town and having big dreams. Underwood also told the newspaper, “It’s not like we had to incorporate boats and water into the song. It was more metaphorical. It was about the feeling, not the setting.” Fortunately, she said she never had the urge to force anything to rhyme with Narnia.
