OFFSTAGE: Keith Urban’s Grateful for Parental Support

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

I want my kids to look back on me the way Keith Urban looks back on his parents now. Urban told CMT Radio that his were not the heavy-handed kind of stage parents. “They were just very effortlessly supportive,” he said. “I was fortunate to have parents that supported what I did. They didn’t try and send me in any direction to fulfill any unfulfilled life of theirs, and I’m really grateful for that.” So Bob and Marienne Urban, wherever you are this holiday season, thank you for being such great role models. That’s exactly how I want my kids to think of me when they are grown up and settled into their roles as rock stars, doctors, lawyers, teachers, writers, mothers, fathers, priests or whatever it is they chose to be in life.
