OFFSTAGE: Blake Shelton’s “I Love You” Is on My Top 10 of ’10 List

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

When I look back on my Top 10 moments of 2010, some are huge. And some are just like a tiny little flash of “This Is Why I Love Country Music” lightening. Blake Shelton was one of those. I was interviewing him over the phone in August, about his new music. Songs like “Who Are You When I’m Not Looking” and “Suffocating” and how he felt like he was making a mini greatest hits album every time he released a new addition to his Six Pak series. Then when our time was up, I thanked him for his honest answers and he thanked me for my questions. And then he said, “I love you.” Now, Shelton may end all his phone interviews that way. Or maybe it was just a slip-up and was just on autopilot — ending a call with me the same way he might with anyone he loves. But it sure put a spring in my step hearing a guy like Shelton tell me he loves me. And no one can take that away from me.
