OFFSTAGE: Keith Urban Rambling On Makes My Top 10 of '10

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

There is some "red carpetiquette" that is standard procedure when you're interviewing artists at a country music event. And one of the most important unwritten rules is not to hog an artist for too long. You want to ask your questions, then let them move on to other journalists. So when I had the chance to ask Keith Urban a question at this year's BMI Awards, and I was told he only had about 10 seconds to spare, I understood. But when I asked my question (which country song does wish he'd written) he said, and I quote, "Wow. This is going to take a while. That would be a very, very long list." He took his sweet time thinking about it. He started listing the songs he wished he'd penned. Like Justin Moore's "Backwoods," Waylon Jennings' "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way" and Dolly Parton's "Here You Come Again." Then he thought about it some more, even though I'd already thanked him for his time, and said, "Wait. I want to add 'Circle Driveway' to my list." Honestly, if he hadn't had a dinner to go to, I'll bet we could've talked all night. But just the thought of Urban giving that much thought to my question that night is definitely at the top of my list of my 10 most memorable moments of '10.
