OFFSTAGE: Tim McGraw Loved Air Supply?

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

A lot of people might read this playlist and think, “Wow. Tim McGraw sure has an eclectic taste in music.” But all I see when I look at the list is Air Supply’s “Making Love Out of Nothing at All.” I don’t know why that one jumps out at me so much. McGraw’s comment about it is simply, “Ahhhh … High school love!!” And I know just what he means. I think that power ballad may have even been my school’s prom theme one year. But what surprises me, really, is that country artists are usually pretty quick to claim their only loves are the Merles and Waylons of the world. So McGraw coming clean about all the kinds of music he digs (and why) is as surprising as it is refreshing. Go check out his list and see which ones shock you. the Beach Boys’ “In My Room”? REO Speedwagon’s “Keep On Loving You”? Aldo Nova’s “Fantasy”?
