Taylor Swift Accepts People’s Choice Award From Sir Elton

Taylor Swift is already a big winner at tonight’s (Jan. 5) People’s Choice Awards . Sir Elton John was on hand to give Swift the biggest country award of the night: favorite country artist. And can we nominate John for best presenter EVER? “When I was a young lad growing up in England, the upbeat twang of the guitar and the honky tonk banging of the piano rang loud and clear all the way across the world. Today, those lovelorn melodies and rebellious songsters still ring loud and clear, proving you don’t need a pick up truck or even an old pair of boots to love country music,” he said. “You just have to hear it to love it.” Amen, Sir Elton. He gave the award to Swift, who hugged her little brother Austin, then John, then she congratulates him and said, “I am so honored to get an award from you.” An award she described as “such a showing of love.” Swift was up against Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum and Rascal Flatts, whose Jay DeMarcus tweeted right after Swift won that “Sadly, we are not the People’s Choice this year 🙁 I’m home enjoying some wonderful downtime with my new precious daughter Maddie!” Earlier in the night, Swift was in the audience singing along to the opening number, Taio Cruz’ “Dynamite.”

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
