OFFSTAGE: Is Dierks Bentley Enough to Make Garrett Hedlund Country?

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

The minute you hear Garrett Hedlund (who plays Beau Hutton) sing in Country Strong, you want him to make a country record. He has the voice of a Trace Adkins or Chris Young or Josh Turner, with the sex appeal of about 10 Brad Pitts. But alas, he told MTV News he has "no plans" to make music -- country or otherwise. Even Dierks Bentley tried to convince him to think about it. "I was in Nashville ... hanging with Dierks Bentley there, and he was saying, 'You gotta come out on the tour and sing one here and there,'" Hedlund said. Another guy who might be able to coax some honky-tonk music out of Hedlund is Miranda Lambert's producer Frank Liddell. "Out in Nashville, we had a wonderful producer Frank Liddell and engineer Luke Wooten that we just spent day after day after day just hashing out these songs, and there was a lot of sweat put in," Hedlund said. If more of Nashville's best and brightest stars like Bentley and Liddell stay after him, I bet we could get at least one album and/or tour out of Hedlund. So let's not give up yet.
