OFFSTAGE: A Carrier for Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s Baby

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

My uterus … and Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s baby? I’ve been pregnant with my own babies three times, but I cannot even begin to imagine what it must have been like for the surrogate mother who just carried Urban and Kidman’s baby. To be pregnant with such a high-profile life inside of her, I’m sure she took extra special care of herself. No coffee, no wine and a lot of dark leafy greens and prenatal vitamins. I know that’s what I would’ve done. That whole What to Expect When You’re Expecting book probably takes on a much different meaning when what you’re expecting is a celebrity couple’s baby. This baby, who we now know is Faith Margaret Kidman Urban, was born on Dec. 28 at the Women’s Hospital at Centennial in Nashville. “No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who was so supportive throughout this process, in particular our gestational carrier,” the couple said in a statement. I’m sure whoever this woman is, she was chosen with careful deliberation and paid well for her 40 weeks of housing and nourishing the embryo of Urban’s sperm and Kidman’s egg. There has been no word on why the couple chose a “gestational carrier,” whether Urban and Kidman were in the delivery room with her or what big sister Sunday Rose thinks of baby Faith. But regardless of how the new baby arrived, I’m sure everyone is just thinking, “Thank heaven for little girls.”
