OFFSTAGE: Steven Tyler Doesn’t Hate Country

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

When Fox & Friends had rock star Steven Tyler on their show last week to talk about his new American Idol judging gig, it definitely sounded like he had a lot of love for country music. Not like that other guy. That’s how Tyler put it, anyway. “Well, it’s not like that other guy who said, ‘I hate country,’” he said in reference to former judge Simon Cowell (who I personally think got to the point where he hated almost everything). “C’mon. Ya know, that’s the one thing that turned me off about the show was Simon passed on this kid because he goes, ‘Besides which, I hate country.’ … If I’m judging music, you don’t judge the genre. Sorry.” So true. They are there to find a voice, not battle over which genre is better. Although there has been plenty of talk that Tyler is very fond of country music. So here’s hoping.

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
