Miranda Lambert Is Top ACM Award Nominee

Multiple Nominations Also Go to Zac Brown Band, Kenny Chesney, The Band Perry, Taylor Swift

Miranda Lambert‘s star ascended even higher Tuesday (Feb. 1) when she received seven nominations to emerge as the top nominee at the 46th annual Academy of Country Music Awards.

She and Ronnie Dunn announced the nominees during an early morning press conference at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in downtown Nashville. Part of the announcement aired live on The Early Show on CBS.

Other top nominees include the Zac Brown Band, Kenny Chesney, The Band Perry and Taylor Swift.

The ACM’s tally includes multiple nominations for artists who write their own songs or produce their own records, but Lambert’s nominations are all as an artist in six separate categories. In addition to her first ACM entertainer of the year award, she’s also up for top female vocalist — an honor she won last year. She’s also nominated for single record of the year and song of the year for “The House That Built Me,” which also netted a song of the year nomination for songwriters Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin. Lambert is included in the vocal event of the year division for her collaboration with Sheryl Crow and Loretta Lynn on “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” She also received two nominations for video of the year — for “Only Prettier” and “The House That Built Me.”

The Zac Brown Band and Kenny Chesney are each nominated for five awards.

The Zac Brown Band’s nominations include album of the year (You Get What You Give) and top vocal group. The band is also nominated in the song, single record and vocal event categories for “As She’s Walking Away” featuring Alan Jackson. Individually, Brown received four additional individual nominations, including three as producer in the album, single and vocal event categories. His other individual mention is as a songwriter in the song of the year field for “As She’s Walking Away.”

Chesney’s Hemingway’s Whiskey is nominated for album of the year, with “The Boys of Fall” included in the single record of the year category. He received two additional nominations for producing the album and single. He’s also up for video of the year for “The Boys of Fall.”

The Band Perry and Swift received four nominations each.

The Band Perry is up for top vocal group and top new vocal duo or group. They’re also nominated for single record and song of the year for “If I Die Young.” Kimberly Perry received an additional individual nomination in the song of the year division for writing “If I Die Young.”

Swift is nominated for four awards, including entertainer of the year. In addition to a top female vocalist nomination, Swift is nominated as an artist and producer in the album of the year category for Speak Now.

Lady Antebellum, Lee Brice, Easton Corbin, Alan Jackson and Keith Urban each received three nominations.

Fan voting will determine ACM’s entertainer of the year and top new artist. Nominees for the latter category were previously announced. The winner will be picked from the newcomer categories — top new solo vocalist and top new vocal duo or group.

This year’s ACM Awards will take place April 3 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton will co-host the CBS telecast.
