OFFSTAGE: Martina McBride Has the Black Eyed Peas' Back

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

I watched the Super Bowl on Sunday (Feb. 6) with friends. And we were pretty wowed by the Black Eyed Peas/Slash/Usher halftime show. Until I checked Twitter immediately following their set. That's when the BEP bashfest had begun. So it was nice to read Martina McBride's morning-after tweet that read, "I've decided there is no win 2 doing the half-time show. Every1 just seems 2 want 2 criticize. Every year. I'm sure it's a nervewracking gig." I completely agree. No matter what the artist does, they are the butt of jokes and commentary for weeks. You've got yin, they want yang, as the saying goes. McBride had even tweeted earlier during the BEP show, "This is awesome, fergie looks fantastic." My only teeny tiny complaint about the Super Bowl halftime show is that it's not country enough. Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt, the Judds and Shania Twain have played parts in that show over the years, and it sure would be nice to have some Nashville representation up there again soon. But like McBride says, there's no way to win, so maybe the lack of country is for the best.
