Billy Ray Cyrus Cancels TV Appearances

Billy Ray Cyrus canceled television appearances scheduled for Wednesday (Feb. 23) on Good Morning America and The View in the aftermath of publicity surrounding a GQ magazine story in which said he was “scared” about daughter Miley Cyrus’ future. In the GQ interview that surfaced on Feb. 15, he blamed fame and the Hannah Montana television series for destroying relationships among his family members. In addition to reports about his daughter’s behavior in Hollywood, Cyrus and his wife Tish filed for divorce in October. In a statement released this week to People, Cyrus termed his recent comments “explosive and unintentionally so.” Cyrus’ appearances on GMA and The View had apparently been scheduled for him to call attention to the dangers of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He told the magazine, “It is very important to me to work on mending my family right now.” Miley Cyrus is scheduled to host Saturday Night Live on March 5.
