OFFSTAGE: Gwyneth Paltrow, Taylor Swift Go for Gold at Oscars

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

I’ve always had a bit of a dress-for-the-job-you-want mentality. But after analyzing the fashions from Sunday night’s (Feb. 27) Academy Awards, it looks like a lot of the ladies had more of a dress-like-the-Oscar-you-want approach to style this year. Gold was everywhere — and so much of it. Some of it was metallic, and some was more of the nude, champagne kind. Gwyneth Paltrow first wore a shimmery Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein gown for her red carpet walk, then changed into a one-shoulder embellished gold floor-length dress for her performance. Celine Dion and Mandy Moore both did gold on the red carpet. Dion had on a pale gold Armani Prive gown, and Moore’s dress was a fleshy-gold sheer Monique Lhuillier design. I didn’t see Taylor Swift at the actual Oscars, but at the Vanity Fair post-show party, she was in a short and sparkly gold Zuhair Murad dress. Actress Hilary Swank spent her night in silvery gold, too, in a Gucci Premiere couture with feathers, and Halle Berry looked stunning (as always) in her champagne tulle ruffle-bottom Marchesa dress.
