OFFSTAGE: Trace Adkins Wants to Play Mute Gunfighter

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

There are two reasons I will go see The Lincoln Lawyer, and neither involve Matthew McConaughey. I will go because of the story’s author, Michael Connelly, because I love him. And because of Trace Adkins because I’m curious about him. He plays a biker. It’s not a huge role, but it’s enough for me. Especially after reading that Adkins is so humble about his part in the movie . “Yeah, I’m not a fan of me doing anything,” he told “I’m not a fan of my singing. I’m not a fan of my acting. There are a lot of people that can do both of those things better than I can, and I’d rather hear them. I’m no Philip Seymour Hoffman or Johnny Depp. It’s got to be a very specific thing for me to do. I’m not going to pull off every role that comes along. Anytime you get out of your comfort zone and you have to do something that you’re not comfortable doing and that you’re not real sure of yourself in, there’s an exhilaration that comes along with that. I get off on it, so that’s why I enjoy doing it.” And at the end of the interview, Adkins explains that his dream role would be a character who’s a mute gunfighter. “I think that would be the ultimate role,” he said. “You wouldn’t have to learn any lines. You could just shoot people and maybe have a dog that follows you around. I’m working on it.”
