OFFSTAGE: Kix Brooks to Model for Sir Sean Connery

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

When I saw Sir Sean Connery’s name in a press release, I thought Alan Jackson was right and that the whole world had gone country. But, alas, that is not the case. Connery is not releasing a country record. He is, however, hosting a country chic event in New York City next week. It’s his Dressed to Kilt charity fashion show . It will draw its inspiration from “the world of country music, particularly noting its Scottish roots and origins .” So kilts and cowboy boots? Tartan plaids with pearl-snap shirts? Wellies and cut-off jeans? I can’t really picture it. But if they are going to, say, serve Glenlivet in Mason jars, I’d love one. I’d give a holler ’n swaller and a toast to Connery, plus the Nashville folks who will be there modeling, including Kix Brooks, Big Kenny Alphin, Kellie Pickler and Gary Allan (whose steel guitar player, C.J. Udeen, wears a kilt during concerts, by the way). The proceeds from the event will go to the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Wounded Warrior Project, which helps injured veterans upon their return from Iraq and Afghanistan. Tickets are still available for about $200.
