There are two huge reasons to see Soul Surfer the minute it comes out. And their names are Bethany Hamilton and Carrie Underwood. Hamilton, of course, because the movie is based on her real-life story of triumphing over tragedy when she lost an arm in a shark attack. It is inspiration times a thousand. Then there’s Underwood. This is her first time in a major motion picture, and she admits it was challenging just because she’s never done it before. She plays Sarah Hill, a counselor who was Hamilton’s “rock” after the 2003 attack. “This is all very new to me. I know how to sing. I know how to do that. I know I got that part down,” she says in this interview with MTV. But then she admits “I’m way out of my element” when it came time to film. And as for playing such a strong woman, Underwood admits, “I could never be the real Sarah Hill. She’s really strong and I believe I can get that.” The movie opens everywhere on April 8.
