OFFSTAGE: Jason Aldean Won’t Beg

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Country fans everywhere have been inundated this week with “vote for me” requests from the artists vying for the ACM’s entertainer of the year award. But Jason Aldean is not one of them. He’s nominated, but he doesn’t feel right about asking for votes. “I don’t know, man. You know what? I always feel weird like doing some sort of video where I’m like hounding everybody to vote for me. I just feel like if people want to vote for me they’re going to vote for me,” he told CMT Radio. I get what he’s saying, but I also know how hard it is to compete with really competitive people. So I don’t know what I’d do if I was up for, say, a fan-voted blogger of the year award. Aldean’s approach, he said, is just to encourage fans to vote. “I think that all you can really do is just kind of make them aware and say, ’Hey, you know, you guys are the ones that can decide the winner.'”
