OFFSTAGE: Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton Play That Funky Music at ACM Jam

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

They say God is in the details. And, man, are they ever right. It's the little moments during a vast awards show weekend in Las Vegas that make the biggest impression. Exhibit A: Carrie Underwood and Steven Tyler singing the crap out of each other's songs. Exhibit B: Taylor Swift playing a ganjo (a banjo with a guitar neck) on "Mean." And Exhibit C: Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton surprising the crowd at Sunday night's (April 3) ACM Fan Jam at Mandalay Bay. It was at the very end of a very long and very mediocre concert-slash-viewing-party and folks were just staring to stumble up and out of the arena. Then Lambert suddenly sauntered onstage to the tune of Wild Cherry's massive '70s hit, "Play That Funky Music," still in her raspberry strapless dress and blinged-out pumps. Shelton joined her as they belted the tune and danced their way all over the stage. And, honestly, if I had to choose the one moment of my entire 60 hours in Vegas that cemented my love for this genre, it would be when the two of them walked off that stage with their arms wrapped around each other.
