ACM Awards: Miranda Lambert “Humbled” by Latest Wins

Adds New Trophies for Female Vocalist, Video, Single and Song of the Year

LAS VEGAS — Miranda Lambert is on a roll after winning four ACM awards on Sunday night (April 3) in Las Vegas. She earned her second consecutive female vocalist award, while “The House That Built Me” claimed hardware in the single, song and video categories. The victories elevate her career ACM wins to nine, with the first one presented for top new female vocalist just four years ago.

“I’m still excited from last year,” she said, referencing her three wins in 2010. “I expected to come to the ACMs in 2011 and just chill and to be happy to be there because last year was so awesome. I am just so humbled. I can’t even express how blessed I feel. I’m so thankful to my parents and the fans for everything.”

Lambert brought her younger brother as her date, since her fiancé, Blake Shelton, was occupied as the show’s co-host. Asked about her brother’s response to her highly decorated song, she replied, “He loves ’The House That Built Me.’ It’s about our family. We’re small — it’s me and my brother and our parents. I remember when we did it on the Grammys, he saw a picture of us on the screen behind me that he’d never seen. And he texted my mom right then. … It’s cool because he’s my brother and he’s kind of like, ’Whatever, I’m proud of you. Go away.'” After a giggle, she concluded, “It meant a lot to him.”

She also noted she’s unveiling a new project, the Pistol Annies, on Monday (April 4) at the Las Vegas taping for Girls Night Out: Superstar Women of Country with songwriters Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley.

“We’ve been writing songs like crazy,” she said. “I’ve always wanted to do a girl project, but it’s not a typical girl trio. We definitely have an edge.”

With her wedding just a few weeks away, Lambert fielded several questions about the big day.

“ACMs were the last thing I was focused on, besides my wedding,” she told reporters. “It’s been an awesome night … and now I can sort of get ready. It’s not just the wedding. I’m going to be a wife. … It’s the rest of my life, and I’m going to start focusing on that.”

Asked if she’d have the color pink in her wedding, she cheerfully replied, “You know, I don’t wear pink because I don’t want to be blond Barbie, but I wore everything pink tonight. I had a pink microphone. I don’t know what’s happening to me. I’m just full of love!”
