CMT's Big New Music Weekend Begins Friday
Ronnie Dunn, Martina McBride, Dierks Bentley, Thompson Square, Jennette McCurdy and Colt Ford are unveiling new videos as part of CMT's Big New Music Weekend on the network and CMT.com. The world-premiere videos will be airing for the first times through Sunday (April 24).
The new videos will be the only ones featured on CMT throughout the weekend's music hours. Each artist taped an introduction to their newest project, which will accompany the video on-air. In addition, they can be viewed on CMT.com.
Dunn's "Bleed Red" is the lead single from his upcoming solo album, due June 7. In the opening scene, Dunn can be seen comforting his daughter, Haley. The other girl in the video is Haley's best friend, Caroline. Blending a performance element with pertinent historical footage, the emotional video explores topics like forgiveness, peace and overcoming obstacles.
McBride's "Teenage Daughters" is her first single since joining the Republic Nashville record label. In the video, which offers a casual, behind-the-scenes view of her life and career, McBride is flanked by her kids, her husband and a bunch of musicians in the recording studio. And at the end of the tune, when she insists she needs a drink, she's got a cocktail ready to go.
Bentley's feel-good single, "Am I the Only One," comes from his upcoming album, due this summer. He co-wrote the energetic track with frequent collaborator Jim Beavers and producer Jon Randall Stewart. "I hope you have as much fun watching it as we did making it," Bentley says in his video introduction. "We had a total blast."
Thompson Square's "I Got You" is an upbeat follow-up to their No. 1 hit, "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not." This time out, the married duo sends up The Sonny and Cher Show, inspired by the iconic married duo's signature hit, "I Got You, Babe." With goofy costumes and colorful décor, the kitschy variety show format looks straight out of the 1970s. No need to call for a casting agency. They played every role, from the camera crew to the groovy audience members.
McCurdy's "Generation Love" comes from the iCarly sidekick's upcoming country debut. The smiling 18-year-old singer shows a youthful optimism in the video, wondering how her generation will be remembered. It may also be the first country video to mention modern amenities like spell-check and plasma screens. Rascal Flatts' Jay DeMarcus produced the single.
Colt Ford's boisterous "Country Thang" is from his next project, Every Chance I Get, due May 3. Influenced by rock, rap and country, he celebrates country life -- from sawmill gravy to small-town beauty pageants. Dallas Davidson sings the catchy chorus, but keep your eyes peeled for Trick Pony's Ira Dean, songwriters Rhett Akins and Ben Hayslip and soulful singer James Otto giving up a wad of cash at the poker table.
