OFFSTAGE: Bin Laden’s Death Ignites Country Response

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Ding, dong, the witch is dead. That’s what I thought when I first heard that al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden had been killed by U.S. military forces. But I was hardly the only one tweeting about it. Before President Obama even made the announcement, Brad Paisley tweeted, “Um you all might want to turn the news on right now…….” Then later he wrote, “And… that just about does it for the incredibly massive coverage of the royal wedding. Thanks for tuning in.”and “If you see someone in a military uniform tomorrow, for heaven’s sake give them a hug. Or a drink.” Billy Ray Cyrus said, “Just saw the news! OSAMA BIN LADEN is dead !!! How crazy is that ! Only in my life could i be at FT Hood on the night this happened …” Reba wrote, “…This is history! You’ll be telling your grandkids about this one day!” Blake Shelton tweeted, “Sorry if this seems disrespectful but I’m so glad that piece of absolute s**t Osama is dead.” Sara Evans said, “So proud of our American soldiers for the incredible job they did in taking out Bin Laden! Praise the Lord! Thank you!” LeAnn Rimes was there, too, with a shout out to the troops. “Omg, Bin Laden!!! Blessings to our troops and a bit of peace for our country and those who lost loved one’s in 9/11,” she said. John Rich made it into some kind of plug for his show Celebrity Apprentice, which the news interrupted at the bitter end, with, “Ya’ll wanna know who got fired? OSAMA.” I am just so glad that we all got to see the day when Darryl Worley‘s words came true. “And we vowed to get the ones behind bin Laden/Have you forgotten?”
