The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Fishin' in the Dark," which reached No. 1 on the country charts in 1987, has been certified gold for 500,000 digital downloads. Released digitally in 2009, it's the first gold-certified digital single for the roots-oriented band, which scored 16 Top 10 country hits in the 1980s. "'Fishin' in the Dark' seems to have a life of its own and has certainly become a signature song for us over the years," said band member Jeff Hanna. "We love that this song has become a summer anthem and continues to appeal to new audiences year after year."
