Blake Shelton Apologizes for Offending Gays

Blake Shelton has apologized for writing a Twitter message on Wednesday night (May 4) that some of his followers construed as anti-gay. Shelton posted his re-written lyrics from “Any Man of Mine” that read, “Any man that tries Touching my behind He’s gonna be a beaten, bleedin’, heaving kind of guy….” Shelton first dismissed the ensuing angry comments from followers as “anti-gay hate tweets,” then apologized for writing the message. He later claimed that his posting was intended to be read from a woman’s point of view. After the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) deemed the comments as violent and anti-gay, Shelton posted a message on Thursday afternoon (May 5) that read, “@glaad hey I want my fans and @nbcthevoice fans to know that anti-gay and lesbian violence is unacceptable!!!!! Help me!!!! And DM me…” DM is a request to continue the discussion privately. Shelton is currently a coach on NBC’s The Voice.
