When you tweet a picture of yourself in a bikini, I get that you are kind of inviting commentary on your body. So when LeAnn Rimes did it over the weekend from her honeymoon, people felt free to weigh in on her body. Saying things like, “Love the bikini … but too skinny. Put some weight on.” And then, “Whoa, you’re scary skinny! Sorry, don’t mean to offend, but that’s a lot of bones showing through skin.” Rimes defended herself, obviously, saying that those are abs — not bones — and that she is a healthy girl, just lean. But it makes me wonder, what if Rimes had been a little on the pudgy side in the pictures? Would people have had the nerve to comment then? Like, “Wow, LeAnn. Lay off the margaritas” or “I see back fat. Get a bigger bikini” or “Is that a just food baby, or are you four months pregnant?” Rimes has always been an open book on Twitter, talking about where she gets her bikinis (butterfliesandbikinis.com) to raving about whatever food she just had (Boston Dog’s sliders and French fries in the Cabo airport and chocolate almonds). And while it’s human nature to think someone is too this or to that, I feel like people — her fans included — should really think before they tweet.
