I realize I’m a little late jumping on The Voice bandwagon. I was pretty wrapped up in Celebrity Apprentice and American Idol, and I figured as long as I followed Blake Shelton on Twitter, I’d always know what was going on with the show. But nothing prepared me for the television magnet that is Jeff Jenkins . He’s a contestant on the show, and I was lured in Tuesday night (May 31) when I heard him singing Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.” I was blown away. Far, far away. I’d never heard an Elton hit with so much twang, but it was fabulous. When Jenkins got to the line about “losing everything is like the sun going down on me,” it sounded like “losing everythang is like the sun going down on me.” He was singing with another contestant, but she quickly got lost behind his voice. Technically, Jenkins is on Adam Levine’s team, but he is all country. He’s done a version of Rascal Flatts’ “Bless the Broken Road” that would make Gary LeVox’s jaw drop. He’s from Jones Creek, Texas. He has a celeb crush on Taylor Swift. He’s got it all, honestly. If he wins this show, that would make him the second country singer to win a major network singing competition this year. And it would make Nashville the biggest winner of all.
