OFFSTAGE: Miranda Lambert Keeps Pistol Annies in View

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

In this Q&A with Atlantic City Weekly, Miranda Lambert brings up a little side project called the Pistol Annies that she's been working on. And I'm dying to hear more about it. It's a girl trio (so I'm thinking neo-Dixie Chicks) and they've been busy writing and recording. She describes their music like this: "Without really knowing where it fits, we just call it music for housewives." So I love it already. Lambert also talks about how her music has evolved and will continue to do so. "People usually change a lot during their 20s, so I think my music has followed the natural development of life and will continue to do just that. I love to keep being surprised and hope to be able to dig even deeper in the chest of lyrics and melodies," she said. And when she's asked to put some kind of label on her music, she says, "I would probably say it's traditional country with a Southern rock twist. I have a rock 'n' roll band with a country singer. I am sure I am all over the map, but that's how I experience life and different things inspire different sounds. I appreciate both 'insightful' songs and 'badass' ones!!"
