OFFSTAGE: Justin Bieber May Try Country Next

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

If you have seen the movie Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, you might have seen this coming -- new music that could possibly be the slightest bit country. While the world sees Bieber as a mega pop star, I see him differently. One scene in the movie captures him at about 12 years old, performing on the steps of what appears to be a bank or office building. His guitar case is open, like he's busking. He is playing an acoustic guitar that is bigger than he is and singing his little heart out. It's not unlike a young Keith Urban might have looked way back when. And Bieber did admit to MTV News that he may take his next album in a new direction. "I've done a lot on my acoustic guitar, so it's gonna have that vibe. I'm not gonna really limit myself. I think music is music, and genre -- I mean, I know there's country music, there's rock music, but my music is different. My voice is not meant for any style. I just want to make music," he said. He also said he has been writing about how he feels. So, to recap, he's going to write songs about feelings and play an acoustic guitar. Throw a banjo in there, and I'd call that country.
