OFFSTAGE: Kid Rock’s Nest Almost Empty

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

It’s hard to imagine, isn’t it? That just like his 40-something brethren, Kid Rock will soon be an empty nester. His only son Junior is leaving Michigan in the fall for college in Nashville. And after having custody of his son since he was very young, how does he feel about that new role? He told Men’s Journal , “Everybody says, ‘What are you going to do now that your kid’s going to college?’ I’m like, ‘What am I going to do with my time?’ I’m going to rock extremely hard. … Now I’m really going to be able to just take off whenever I want.” Then he pauses, thinks, and adds, “I’ll probably end up sitting in the house all alone, but the concept’s there.” As for Junior’s own plans in Nashville, the story doesn’t say what his major will be at Belmont University, but it does say he’s going to spend time hunting with Hank Williams Jr. “He’s the best,” Kid Rock said of his friend. “If you’re going to be a painter, don’t hang out with a carpenter. If you want to go hunting, he’s the best.”
