OFFSTAGE: Blake Shelton on Boobs, Poets and Flat Irons

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Blake Shelton never seems to run out of funny these days. Just when you think he’s going to put his sense of humor on the back burner and focus on the release of his new album — Red River Blue, released Tuesday (July 12), he makes these videos that parody the TV commercials for Dos Equis beer. Shelton’s campaign is called the “Most Interesting Man in Country Music,” and after watching just a few, it’s clear he’s really vying for that title. He opines on the secret of life (“boobies”), shares genius ideas he’s claiming as his own (maple sausage) and declares songwriters the poets of the modern world, citing Rebecca Black’s “Friday” as an example of that poetry. Then he doles out advice to men who flat-iron their hair, asking, “You do realize that people are going to see you, right?” His new album has 11 tracks of dead serious, crazy good country music, but this video campaign shows Shelton’s other charming side. Stay funny, my friend.
