OFFSTAGE: Brad Paisley’s Waiting for You, Eric Clapton

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Did you see Brad Paisley blowing New York City’s Central Park away Friday morning (July 15)? He was on Good Morning America right after the segment on the woman who was addicted to chewing fabric softener dryer sheets. Paisley took the stage to do “Old Alabama,” complete with that blazing fiddle break from Justin Williamson, plus “Nobody’s Fools” (from the new Cars 2 soundtrack), “Water” and “Camouflage.” And he apparently even played during the commercial breaks because, as he explained it, “Well, I’m bored. You’re waiting on the show to come back. Might as well play.” And then when host Robin Roberts asked him who his dream collaboration would be with, Paisley had his answer ready. “I always say Eric Clapton, and he’s obviously heard me at some point. I’ve said it everywhere. And he hasn’t called,” he said, half optimistic, half hopeless. So Clapton, if you’re reading this, Paisley is expecting your call. (Even meteorologist Sam Champion was in a country music mood today, doing his weather reporting in cowboy boots and jeans. So there’s a 100 percent chance that he’s very, very hot.)
