Jason Aldean's Concert Disrupted by Mother Nature

Chris Young, Thompson Square Squeeze In Songs Before Storm Forces Concert Cancellation

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. -- It took an act of God to keep Jason Aldean from rocking out at the Wharf Amphitheater after fans got a taste of country from Thompson Square and Chris Young.

The venue typically places a barricade between the audience and the stage, but at Thursday night's (July 14) a stop on Aldean's My Kinda Party tour, there was nothing standing between him and his fans. Except for Mother Nature, who made her presence known in a dramatic way before Aldean had a chance to perform.

As a recording of the pop music standard "Love and Marriage," the theme from the Married With Children sitcom, boomed over the sound system, Thompson Square arrived onstage to open the show with four tunes from their self-titled debut album, including the No. 1 hit, "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not," and their current single, "I Got You."

The duo's rise to stardom has been particularly fast, considering that just a year ago, both Keifer and Shawna Thompson were not onstage in front of thousands but tending bar at the Wheel, a bar in downtown Nashville.

The Thompsons aren't the only act on Aldean's tour familiar with the glow of a neon sign. Chris Young's third album, Neon, hit stores just this week.

Young enthusiastically greeted the sun-weary, screaming sea of fans with "That Makes Me" and "Gettin' You Home." At the time, he had no idea he would only get four songs into his set before the party would be shut down.

"This is for those of you who hate high gas prices and love cold beer!" he smiled as he went into "Beer or Gasoline."

Young appeared to be just getting started on the song when the announcement was made that the amphitheater was being evacuated because of severe weather heading into the area. Moments later, the storm hit hard, and people scurried to seek shelter. Fans waited through sideways rain, wind, lightning flashes and thunder for more than an hour before the announcement was made that the show would not go on after all.

Young, who didn't appear to be happy when his set was cut short, later tweeted, "Holy damn. Just got kicked off stage due to a storm ... #Iwanttogobackon."

Thompson Square chimed in, as well, tweeting, "We had a great show tonight in Orange Beach at the Wharf. Chris and Jason were rained out but will be back soon. Thanks Bama."

The concert has been rescheduled for Sept. 25. All tickets to Thursday's show will be honored in September.

Other shows included in the Wharf's concert series include Gary Allan and Miranda Lambert on July 23 and Kid Rock on Sept. 5.
