I’ve never written a song, but I completely understand what Martina McBride means. In a radio interview, she revealed how nervous she was to play her upcoming album (due Oct. 18) for her fan club members. “It’s nerve-wracking because it’s like showing somebody your baby,” she said. “You want them to say, ’Aww, cute baby,’ not, ’Ugly baby.’ So I was nervous a little bit, but it was such a great experience to be able to share that with them first. I took the band in and did the whole album live, and it was exciting. I told them about three songs in, I said, ’OK, I’m finally starting to relax.'” Next up for McBride is the release of her new single, “I’m Gonna Love You Through It,” which should be on country radio by next week. It’s a song about a young mother diagnosed with breast cancer. This one is the kind of “issue” song that McBride does better than anyone. And it doesn’t sound like an ugly baby at all.
