OFFSTAGE: Zac Brown Takes Shelter in Music

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

I’ve seen Zac Brown onstage. And I’ve seen him off the stage. And sometimes it feels like he’s two different guys. But now it all makes perfect sense. That’s because Brown recently told CMT Radio that the stage is where he is most himself.

“I feel more at home onstage than I do milling around, just having conversation with people,” he said. “Music’s always been that shelter for me. I’d lose myself in the music, and so when I’m on the stage and behind a microphone away from everybody else, and away from everything, and trying to connect with those people, I feel more at home than I do anywhere.”

If you have ever seen a Zac Brown Band show, you know exactly what he means. He absolutely owns the stage — and usually the entire room — when he’s performing. So if you see him milling around somewhere trying to make conversation, just know he’d probably rather be on a stage.
