OFFSTAGE: Taylor Swift’s Secrets for Killer Confidence

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Own the room. That’s job one, according to Taylor Swift. She told Seventeen magazine all the ways you can boost your self-confidence, like by throwing your shoulders back, wearing red lipstick and never comparing yourself to other girls. She also reveals that being fearless is sometimes not being not fearful. “It’s being terrified — and jumping anyway,” she says. Other advice? The best way to get what you want is not to yell. A risk worth taking is falling desperately, stupidly, hopelessly in love. But Swift isn’t just giving advice. She’s getting it, too. She says the best advice she ever got was from Alanis Morissette and her song, “You Learn”: “You live you learn/You love you learn/You cry you learn/You lose you learn.”

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
