(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)
After watching, and then re-watching, the very condensed and televised version of the CMA Music Festival on ABC, I walked away loving our newest American Idol stars even more than ever.
That’s mostly because of the way they balance their newfound fame with refreshing youthful candor. Like when Lauren Alaina sees Scotty McCreery asleep in the car, she admits, “We love our naps.” And when McCreery introduces himself to Vince Gill at a charity softball game, he does so without assuming the country legend would know who he was. And Alaina remarks, as they are approaching LP Field and some 70,000 fans, “My whole town would fit in that stadium.”
But the best part is after the radio interviews, when she comes out and asks McCreery, “Did you tell someone we were getting married in 11 years?” He just looks at her, deadpan, and says “Mmm, hmm.” If his romantic forecast is right, look forward to extensive wedding coverage here in 2022.
