OFFSTAGE: Miranda Lambert Probably Has One in Her Purse

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Miranda Lambert made it so worth it to stay up late Monday night (Aug. 29). She was the final 18-minute segment on NBC’s Dateline , saying candid things like, “I wanted [people] to listen to my music, not look at my legs.” (She elaborated by explaining, “For the first two years of my career, I wouldn’t wear anything but jeans, boots and a vintage T-shirt because I felt like people would say, ’Oh there’s another cute blond singer.’ And I wanted to, like, stand out.” What’s ironic about that comment on her style is the show had multiple images of a 19-year-old Lambert in braids, licking a lollipop, during her Nashville Star tenure around 2003.) Lambert also talked openly about her family’s lean years, when all they had to eat was peanut butter and crackers, and how her family took in victims of domestic abuse. Then her stance on guns crept into the conversation. Lambert admitted that while people joke around asking her if she’s packing, she says that she replies, “Usually, yeah. If it’s legal in your state, I probably have one in my purse.”
