Right this minute, Christian Kane is kind of a gypsy. “I don’t really have a home,” he told me when we talked last week. “I’m in Nashville now, but I have a place in Portland [Oregon] and one in Los Angeles, but I’m from Oklahoma mostly.” So maybe he isn’t officially settled anywhere, but it must be those Oklahoma roots and having parents who rode in the rodeo that gave Kane the foundation to be a country singer. Even if he took a kind of circuitous route. “I was 13 and wanted to rebel against my parents. Guns N’ Roses helped with that. But then you grow up and realize your dad’s not full of shit,” he laughed. “But country’s where I’ve always been.” So while he’s been acting for a while, most recently on Leverage, in his heart he has always been a country singer. And now that his two country videos, “Let Me Go” and “The House Rules,” are enjoying some success, he credits his fans. His Kaniacs. “I’ve got best fans in the world. I may not have as many fans as some guys, but I have the best ones. I’m not Kenny Chesney yet. I’m still trying to climb the ladder. But that’s OK because once you get to the top, then it becomes a job,” he said. Kane is currently on hiatus from acting, so he’s on the road touring.
