OFFSTAGE: You Can’t Miss a Candlelit Charles Kelley

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

When Charles Kelley brings you candles, you can’t help but notice. Maybe it’s because he’s 6 feet 6 inches tall, or maybe it’s because you and your husband are among Lady Antebellum‘s biggest fans. But what makes this hidden camera prank from last week’s episode of the The Ellen DeGeneres show so hilarious is that before Kelley delivers the votive candles to this couple’s table in some restaurant, the man and woman don’t even give Dave Haywood a glance when he brings them a bread basket. And they barely even look up at Hillary Scott when she delivers iced tea. “They have no clue. This is awesome,” she tells the camera. Yet the whole time, the couple is talking incessantly about what big fans they are. Like how they never get in the car without putting Lady A on and how “I Run to You” is always their ringtone. But when Kelley comes out, they finally look up. And their grins go from ear to ear, especially when he brings Haywood and Scott back out to the table and they do a little a cappella “Need You Now.” It’s adorable.
