OFFSTAGE: How the Tim McGraw-Faith Hill Chemistry Works

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

He’s a little bit Southern, she’s a little bit R&B? When Tim McGraw and Faith Hill talked to a reporter in Australia about their upcoming tour of the land down under, that’s kind of how McGraw described their onstage marriage. “But our chemistry really works — the roughness of my voice and the power of her voice. She comes from a soul, R&B influence, and I come from a ’70s, Southern rock influence, but strangely, the combination works great,” he said. And I guess I can see where he’s coming from about the fusion of their voices when they sing together. He also threw a humble remark in there just so everyone knows who really has the better vocals. “She is the best there is,” he said. “She is in an elite class of singers, I’m not even the same room as her when it comes to vocal talent.” All Hill had to say about sharing the stage with her husband was, “I feel pretty lucky to be up onstage with him. I still love staring at him,” Hill said. Whatever they do to keep that chemistry going, it’s working. And I’m sure Australia will love them when they kick off their tour in the spring. And if they don’t, McGraw has a plan. “My fallback was if no one knows who I am and no one knows any of my songs, I’m going start playing Keith Urban songs,” he joked.
