OFFSTAGE: It’s Enchanting to Meet Taylor Swift’s Wonderstruck

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Is there nothing Taylor Swift cannot do? In the television commercial for her new fragrance, Wonderstruck, it’s pretty obvious she can now add persuasive pitchman to her resume. All she really does in the mini fairytale is walk around in an old house in a gigantic white dress, kind of demurely flirting with a prince charming character. But it’s her speaking voice, then her singing voice, that have all the convincing power. “It’s a spark. A connection. A rush of something new. And once you’ve been struck, you’ll never be the same again,” she says. Then her song “Enchanted” plays, with Swift singing, “This night is sparkling, don’t you let it go. I’m wonderstruck, blushing all the way home. I was enchanted to meet you.” The 40-second spot ends with Swift saying, “Wonderstruck — the beginning of something magical.” And for about $60, you can get 3.4 ounces of that something magical from Macy’s. (For a while, Swift was giving away free samples of the fragrance on her Facebook page, but those are long gone now.)
