Avett Brothers' Bassist Taking Hiatus to Care for Ill Daughter

The Avett Brothers' bassist, Bob Crawford, has temporarily stepped aside from the band to care for his 22-month-old daughter, Hallie, who has a brain tumor. On the band's website, Crawford wrote an explanation about his daughter's condition, which he calls "very rare, but deadly." He said his wife found Hallie having a seizure last month and that an MRI revealed a grade 3 ependymoma brain tumor. The child was placed in a five-day coma and has undergone two brain surgeries. "When people ask us what they can do to help, we ask them to pray for Hallie's recovery. We feel that God has already worked miracles through Hallie, and we pray they keep coming," he wrote. The band is continuing its tour commitments with another bassist filling in for Crawford.
