Who better than a 16-year-old girl to help navigate the exhausting social networking world of love and the do’s and don’ts of relationship statuses? American Idol runner-up Lauren Alaina may be on the verge of country super stardom with her new Wildflower album out Tuesday (Oct. 11), but she is a teenager to the core, right down to her relationship status on Facebook. “I think it’s embarrassing to be Facebook official, to be completely honest,” she told CMT Radio. “Because when you’re a teenager, you have a boyfriend and can break up the next week, and if you make it Facebook official you look like an idiot when you have a boyfriend one day, and the next day it’s gone. And if you’re gonna put ‘in a relationship,’ don’t tag the person on it. Just put ‘in a relationship!’ That way, people know you’re in a relationship.” Wait, what? You are supposed to let people know you have a boyfriend but not who he is? That doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. But this is one of those cases where teenagers — more so than their mothers — know best.
