The Academy of Country Music is bringing back the songwriter of the year category for the 2012 ACM Awards. The songwriter of the year award has been given only once, in 1965, to Roger Miller. The category’s final nominees will be selected by an industry panel, with the winner determined by member voting. This year’s five nominees will be determined, in part, by their compositions’ airplay between Dec. 1, 2010, and Nov. 30, 2011. The ACM Awards nominations will be revealed in February. The date for the 2012 show has not been announced.
