Last week, Miranda Lambert tweeted she “nervous baked.” Now, I’ve heard of nervous eating. And nervous drinking. But never nervous baking. So, she explained it for me, and one of the primary beneficiaries of her kitchen endeavors was her husband, Blake Shelton. “I was just nervous about album release week,” she admitted to me when we talked Wednesday (Nov. 2), amid her other release-week activities. “It’s kind of a release [to cook], and it’s relaxing to bake. So I made cookies and cake all day long. I cooked Blake a bunch of food and left it in the fridge for when I was in New York doing press. It kind of calms me down.” That makes absolute sense, even though Lambert had no reason at all to be nervous. I mean, have you heard her just-released new album, Four the Record? It is all good. I’m especially loving “Dear Diamond,” “Mama’s Broken Heart,” “All Kinds of Kinds” and “Look at Miss Ohio.” Anyway, back to the baking. I asked Lambert what it’s like to be living in a small town in Oklahoma when she has to run out to the grocery store for more ingredients while she’s already knee-deep in butter and eggs and sugar and flour. “We live in such a small town,” she said. “It’s only about 3,000 people. And they’re used to Blake and I. We’re just regular citizens of Tishomingo now. That’s why we live where we live. And that’s why we love it here.” That — and the smell of pumpkin cookies, I’ll bet.
