Now this is what friends are for. Touring. Bringing their A-list kind of country music together for girls like me who have been dreaming about a show like this. Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney (and Grace Potter and Jake Owen) are going to hit the road in 2012. (Including a scheduled stop in Chicago on July 7, thankyouverymuch.) But when I heard about the possibility that such a dream team might be coming to town, I told Tracy Lawrence last week I thought he should join them. Remember his hit song from 2007 — “Find Out Who Your Friends Are” ? He sang it with guest vocals from McGraw and Chesney. I loved that song. And still do. (His “Paint Me a Birmingham” and “How a Cowgirl Says Goodbye” are some other favorites.) Anyway, Lawrence told me he loved my idea about doing some shows with them. “I think that would be great,” he said. “We are living on complete opposite sides of town now, but I see them once in a blue moon. The last time I saw Tim was about six months ago. We went and had lunch together.” He also explained how he, McGraw and Chesney got to be such good friends. “We were all in town about same time about 20 years ago, and I used to crash on Tim’s couch all the time. So that song is just timeless. Everybody’s got friends. And we all lean on those friend at times, so it was the perfect song for three guys to do together,” he said.
