Vince Gill Recalls Gym Teacher’s Attempt at Sex Abuse

Vince Gill has revealed that a gym teacher at his school made sexual advances toward him when Gill was in middle school. Prior to a Wednesday night (Nov. 16) concert in Los Angeles, Gill discussed the incident during an interview with CNN and Showbiz Tonight. When the conversation turned to the sexual abuse scandal at Penn State, Gill said, “It conjured up something that happened in my past when I was about that age, as a 12-year-old kid starting seventh grade. There was unfortunately a gym teacher at our school that wound up being the same kind of thing … and there were some advances made towards me that were very awkward.” Gill said he jumped up and ran away. “But I was so young, I didn’t know what to do,” he said. “I didn’t know much about sexuality, didn’t know anything about all that stuff.” He added, “Nothing happened, but it could have been a lot worse, and my situation could have been a lot different. But there’s just no telling how often this goes on and nobody knows.” Although he did not comment specifically about the Penn State scandal, he said, “There are a lot of people unfortunately preying on kids, and it doesn’t get any sicker than that.”
