OFFSTAGE: And AMA Goes to ... Blake Shelton!

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

If they weren't going to take the seven seconds to say it out loud during the TV broadcast, I think someone should. Blake Shelton won an American Music Award for favorite male country artist. But was there fanfare at Sunday night's (Nov. 20) show? A big announcement? A "Blake couldn't be here tonight, but he's here with us via satellite" moment, like the show did for Adele, Rihanna and Beyoncé when they won? No, no -- and hell, no. It was in the credits at the end of the show. THE CREDITS! Who wants an award where you're lumped in with the people who handled the catering? (No offense to the caterers. I'm sure the food was excellent.) Well, not Shelton, that's for sure. In fact, he didn't even know he won until Monday morning when he tweeted, "(Expletive)!!! I just found out I won an American Music Award last night! I only stayed awake long enough to watch Adam and Christina. Ha!" (Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera were his fellow judges on The Voice.) Shelton later tweeted, "Anyway thank y'all for voting your asses off for me!!! I promise next time yall are up for an AMA I'm gonna vote everyday for you!!! Swear!!" So if he wasn't even aware of his own AMA win, how are all the fans who expected to see if their efforts paid off after they voted for him and likely watched the entire show?
