(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)
Has Rob Lowe aged? I could’ve sworn he and I were the same age. And yet, there he was on the red carpet at the CMT Artists of the Year taping in Nashville last night (Nov. 29), looking all 20 years ago. Like he was more like 27 than 47. Or as if it was 1985 all over again, and he was walking the red carpet for the movie premiere of St. Elmo’s Fire.
And that was just the carpet. I can only imagine how charming he was when he went inside to host the event, which airs on CMT on Dec. 13. But all of his heartthrobiness aside, here’s what I think makes Rob Lowe so sexy: he is just as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside.
I know this because I read his memoir, Stories I Only Tell My Friends. And because I watch him on Parks & Recreation like it’s my job. And because I sat through his latest movie, I Melt With You, even though I hated every minute of the dark, twisted hot mess it was, just to see what happened to him in the end. And because I quote the things he’s told Oprah on an almost-daily basis. When Lowe talked about his two teenage boys, Johnowen and Matthew, and how sad it will be the day they leave for college and beyond, he said, “They’re yours. And then they’re the world’s.”
