Jo Dee Messina reached No. 1 in 2005 with “My Give a Damn’s Busted,” but it looks like it’s all fixed now. She does indeed give a damn — about her husband, her son and her almost-here baby. So to kind of show the world how much she does care about the family/career balance so many moms are striving for, Messina has launched this very fun, very honest blog called Fumbling Mom . She claims that when she was pregnant for the first time in 2008, she was “clueless, unprepared and had no idea what was about to come my way.” So she created this blog to share her journey into being a mom. And what I love about it, so far, is that it shows just how powerful the common thread of motherhood can be. She’s a country singer — and you may be an accountant, a sales rep, a nurse, an investment banker, a writer, a chef, a cop, a stay-at-home mom or an engineer — but the things she has to say are truths no matter what you do for a living. Like ranting about her husband’s tunnel vision. Being jealous of how cute Beyoncé looks with her baby bump. The struggles and messes of potty training. And she shares so many spontaneous pictures from her own camera: pillow piles, pancakes and so many adorable ones of her son. Like she says, she may not have all the answers, but she has some. And every mom has days where she feels like she, too, is fumbling. That’s when a blog like this can work wonders.
