Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum Top List of ACM Nominees
Kenny Chesney led the pack when nominations for the 47th annual Academy of Country Music Awards were announced Thursday morning (Jan. 26). Other top nominees included Lady Antebellum, Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley, Toby Keith, Taylor Swift, the Eli Young Band and Grace Potter.
Chesney's nominations include entertainer of the year, an award he has won four times since 2004, and male vocalist. With the ACM's tally counting separate nominations for artists who also produce or co-produce their own recordings, he received two nominations each for album of the year (Hemingway's Whiskey) and for the single record and vocal event categories for "You and Tequila," his collaboration with Grace Potter. He's also listed in the song of the year division for "You and Tequila," the hit written by Matraca Berg and Deana Carter. All of Potter's nominations stem from her recording with Chesney.
Aldean is nominated for six awards, including entertainer of the year and male vocalist. His My Kinda Party is up for album of the year, and his collaboration with Kelly Clarkson on "Don't You Wanna Stay" is nominated for single record and vocal event of the year. His "Tattoos on This Town" is also nominated for video of the year.
Lady Antebellum reeled in five nominations, including vocal group of the year, an honor they've won the past two years. Band members Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood are also nominated for album of the year as artists and producers of Own the Night. They also received double nominations in the song and video of the year categories for "Just a Kiss."
Paisley is up for four awards, including entertainer of the year and male vocalist. He received two nominations in the vocal event category for "Old Alabama" with Alabama and "Remind Me" with Carrie Underwood.
Keith's three nominations resulted from "Red Solo Cup." In addition to a video of the year nod, he received a double nomination as artist and producer in the single record of the year field.
Swift, the ACM's reigning entertainer of the year, received her third consecutive nomination in the category. She also received nominations for female vocalist and video of the year for "Mean."
The Eli Young Band garnered three nominations, including vocal group and record and song of the year for "Crazy Girl," written by Liz Rose and Lee Brice.
Dierks Bentley, Vince Gill, Miranda Lambert, Aaron Lewis, Blake Shelton, Chris Young, Clarkson and Underwood all received two nominations each.
The ACM nominees were revealed online via Facebook and Twitter during the ACM's first-ever digital press conference. Reba McEntire, who will again co-host this year's show with Blake Shelton, began the event with a video message before the nominations were read during video postings by Lionel Richie, Beth Behrs (2 Broke Girls), Nancy O'Dell (Entertainment Tonight) and Michael Ausiello (TVLine.com).
Coinciding with activities surrounding the April 1 awards show, Richie will be honored during a taping of ACM Presents: Lionel Richie and Friends in Concert, a CBS special scheduled to air later this year. CBS will air the ACM Awards live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
